Burn baby burn

So bitches, I'm off to Burning Man. Preparing for it has been logistical porn for those in my camp who enjoy logistics. I am more of a vague ideas and platitudes sort of lady and have thus contributed some ephemeral plots which I intend to pull off by the skin of the teeth of my pants. I expect big things, perhaps not quite this big, and I sure fucking hope Dr Dre follows up his threat of ripping off those naked hippies but essentially for the next couple of weeks I am out of radio and bloggio contact.

My bags are packed and several wigs have arrived by post - including a 'baroque beauty' one which makes me look like an orthodox jewish tranny - all in all I think it's going to be the sort of venture I'm unlikely to blog about in detail upon my return...

In the meantime, if you're in London and like cars, get yourself to the Chelsea Auto Legends show on Sunday 4th Sept at the Royal Hospital in aid of Help for Heros.

Smell you later suckerrrrrrs. I leave you with Bill Ray's 1965 photos of kick-ass bitchin' biker chicks from the Hell's Angels' Mother Chapter. Read more here.

Marc Campbell at Dangerous Minds puts it best:

While all of Ray’s photographs are extraordinarily expressive and strikingly composed, his shots of the women are the ones that really get to me. Badass, beautiful and forlorn. These chicks could eat today’s hipsters for breakfast. I want to know them.

I am actively in love with the broken-nosed girl in rollers.

Inside the Blackboard Cafe. Broken nose.

What is this? Pt 5

Origami FOR ANTS?

The Visual News writes:

Using just a toothpick to create her minuscule folds, German paper-crafter Anja Markiewicz makes what must be some of the smallest examples of origami around. Many of her tiniest paper cranes measure only 4mm across (check out those fingerprints for a sense of scale). For more info on Anja and her work, see her Flickr photos or buy jewelry made with the pieces at

Awesome-o Friday

I seem to have typed 'awesome' a lot in this post. What of it? I won't be shamed by you. Have a nice weekend.

Film plot cliches - as an infographic (an awesome one) link

WhatEVER Crufts, all the cool canines are doing puppy parkour now. This dog is awesome. link

An incredibly useful tool for getting around town -

Hate mail sent to a scientist from kids enraged that Pluto is no longer classed as a planet. Magic. link

Hmm, this is kind of awesome and kind of disgusting, as many of the best things are - swallowable perfume - you then exude the scent from your very pores. link

Sorry (*not*). How to pitch your apology. link

The new Frankencat. link

Split Family Faces - this is really weird and really cool. link

Giant coin makes things look small. link

I'm afraid these paintings by Brendan Danielsson caught my eye; they're utterly grotesque yet somehow rather compelling. Sorry for that.

It's Friday o'clock

This week has been a horrific shit show for Londoners and other England-dwellers. One of my greatest fears is (admittedly zombie-related) civil unrest but I have been left utterly baffled by what has gone on here. I simply can't get my head around the mindless insanity that possessed shit loads of kids and teenagers to go and loot the fuck out of our wonderful city and destroy anything they could get their hands on.

Some excellent black humour has arisen out of it all, as have some wonderfully human acts of kindness and bravery. For shaming the looters, I think you can't beat photoshop (see below), and for scaring the shit out of them to stop them doing it again, the results of a water cannon to the face should probably do the trick (not for the fainthearted).

The iPhone hand case. You know you want one. (Hands down the weirdest site I've seen this week.) link

Some disturbing gang photography. link

What have you got in your mouth Stacey? link

Heyzeus what a depressing letter - a reader writes to columnist India Knight telling her to be more like Melanie Philips (purveyor of bile in the Daily Mail). link

Creepiest gaddamn bike helmets I ever did saw. link

A Nazi-foxing t-shirt. What's not to like? link

Angry People in Local Newspapers - endless delight. link

The famous Russian inflatable sex doll river-race. Everyone's a winner here. link

Rioting. Hipster douchebag style. link

Feel that shudder? Yep, that's a full body cringe at the sight of this 55 year old executive rapping. link

Trustworthiness according to beard type - charted. link

Chihuahua playing pool. link

Some evocative shots from the rioting on Mare Street. link

Cat video of the week / year. Really love this. link

And here are my topical tumblrs of the week:

Finally, I found out on the internet this week that the German word "kummerspeck" means "excess weight gained by emotional over-eating" and translates literally as "grief bacon". Have a happy weekend everyone.

Update - here are two late additions. Very well worth it.

A bill? Or a freaking PRESENT?

Which would you prefer to shoop monthly through your letterbox? Well the bills will arrive come what may but if you sign up to Not Another Bill, you will also be sent a beautifully packaged package containing surprise contents of the creative bent. I've seen some of the packages first hand and the care and attention which goes into making them something truly delightful is very evident.

I find it hard to express how much I love presents. I still get palpations of anticipatory joy around the present receiving times of year. Verging on psychotic. On my twentieth birthday my godmother stared in amazement at me and said "It's like I've travelled back in time; this is exactly like your fourth birthday." She was referring to me sitting under the dining room table surrounded by jagged wisps of tissue paper, with wild hair and dilated pupils, snarling at anyone who came too close unless they had a gift in hand. Bit nightmarish but I think it's balanced out by the fact that I really love giving presents too, and not just ones which I want myself and steal back off the recipient when their back is turned.

Anyway, enough present talk, my mouth is hanging open in a generally covetous and giveaway fashion. Not Another Bill - a damn good idea.

Last words

An incredible selection of 'last statements' by prisoners on Death Row before they are executed. Powerful stuff, worth a full look at the site.

Also take a look at James Reynolds' Last Suppers photos - documenting inmates' final meals before facing execution.

G.W. Green.

Mooozak Monday

The A Team by Ed Sheeran is the prettiest song about a crackhead prozzie I've ever heard and I am seriously stuck on the Koan Sound remix. As in I freaking love it - found it via 22tracks which has a really excellent relax playlist.
